Call for Application: Editors-in-Chief of ISCOS journals

ISCoS is now accepting applications for 2 Editors-in-Chief position, one managing Spinal Cord and the other managing Spinal Cord Series and Cases, both beginning January 2024.

The Editors-in-Chief will be responsible for continuing to develop and improve the quality of each journal. They will deliver strategic direction to the Journals and provide guidance and recommendations for new initiatives.

Essential qualifications include a record of significant scholarly achievement at an international level, including significant personal experience in writing scientific papers, publishing scientific works, and serving as a peer reviewer or Editorial Board member for a scientific publication.

Educational Qualification of an Editors-in-Chief
 

The Editors-in-Chief should have an appropriate bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD degree in a discipline related to SCI management and have at least 10 years of experience in their field. They are expected to have a distinguished research and publication record in the field of spinal cord injury and have served on at least one Editorial board although not necessarily.

Responsibilities will include:

Editorial

  • With administrative assistance from the Publisher’s editorial office support staff, manage the peer review of and make final decisions on the approximately 400 manuscripts submitted to SC and 300 to SCSC annually.
  • Appoint and lead a group of Section Editors, ensuring that the Journals maintains high standards for the refereeing and acceptance of articles.
  • Nominate, appoint, and secure the services of an expert, internationally recognized Editorial Board for the Journals.
  • Chair at least one Editorial Board meeting per journal each year (typically at the ISCoS annual scientific meeting)
  • Adhere to standards of editorial good practice, as defined in the Publisher's Code of Conduct for Editor-in-Chief of Journals.
  • Ensure all ethical issues relating to the Journal are resolved in line with good practice and the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.

Strategic

  • Collaborate with the Publisher to develop improved ways to optimize the content, quality, and speed of publishing.
  • Oversee the strategic commissioning of content for the journals, ensuring a regular pipeline of high-quality review and editorial content.
  • Advise on hot topics for timely thematic collections, selecting suitable experts to act as guest editors.
  • Work collaboratively with the Publisher to ensure continuous growth of the journals, whilst upholding high scientific quality and good turnaround times.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with external organizations such as relevant funders, patient organizations, and early career groups.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations for new initiatives to enhance the author and reader experience.

Terms of appointment
 

The initial term of service for these positions is from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2027.

The Editors-in-Chief will be compensated for time and effort devoted to the Journals.
