Guide for Collections in Neuropsychopharmacology

This journal also publishes special/guest-edited issues/collections. The peer review process for these articles is the same as the peer review process of the journal in general. Additionally, if the guest editor(s) authors an article in their special issue, they will not handle the peer review process.

Neuropsychopharmacology Reviews

Aims & Scope
Neuropsychopharmacology Reviews (NPPR) is a special issue of NPP that is published in January of each year. It is intended to be a rigorous set of 15-20 invited reviews and associated commentaries on a particular theme of relevance to the readership of NPP and interests of ACNP members.

Guest Editor Information
NPPR is curated by the Co-Principal Editors in collaboration with the volume editors (currently Carolyn Rodriguez, M.D., Ph.D Stanford University, United States and Charles Zorumski, M.D., Washington University, United States).

Peer Review Policy
All authors are invited by the Senior Editors. All invited articles are sent out for rigorous peer review.

Validity of Statement

Health disparities Collection

Aims & Scope
The Health Disparities Collection aims to highlight NPP articles and commentaries that address disparities related to gender, race, ethnicity, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and early life adversity. Articles that are a good fit for this collection focus on 1) race, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQIA2S+ identities; 2) neurobiological differences associated with disparities related to childhood trauma, adversity, racism, and education; and 3) understudied ancestral populations. Articles that examine neurobiological differences in which these issues are only tangential to the focus of the research are ineligible for this collection. Overall, through this collection, NPP aims to shine a spotlight on research that centers traditionally underserved communities in neuroscience.

Guest Editor Information
Not applicable.

Peer Review Policy
Articles in this collection are submitted as standard NPP articles through the general NPP submission portal. At this time, authors may self-nominate their manuscripts for consideration for this collection. Submissions undergo the standard NPP peer review process. Once articles are selected for publication, they are curated post-hoc for the collection by the NPP Special Projects Team.

Validity of Statement
The peer review process for these articles is the same as the peer review process of the journal in general. There are no guest editors for this collection.

Early Career Commentary Collection

Aims & Scope
The Early Career Commentary Collection is a special article format that is intended to provide a platform for trainees and early-stage investigators (ESIs; as defined by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)) to share their scientific ideas and perspectives. All authors of this article type are required to be trainees or ESIs. Topics can include journal-club style commentaries, research perspectives and opinions, comments on current issues, dueling opinions, or another focus. If discussing a current debate, authors are encouraged to provide historical context and suggest constructive approaches. Priority is given to inquiries that focus on novel and/or timely topics (scientific, social, policy, equity, and ethics) of broad interest and importance to the larger NPP and ACNP communities. Short literature reviews are not appropriate for this article type. Preference is given to inquiries that offer novel, timely, and diverse scientific perspectives and go beyond reviewing the current literature. Preference may also be given to submissions that include multiple authors across diverse career stages (undergraduate/graduate student, post-bac, post-doc, etc.), racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds, as well as from diverse geographic locations and institutions. Through this collection, NPP aims to provide a voice for the unique and diverse perspectives of trainees and ESIs.

Guest Editor Information
The Early Career Commentary Collection is curated by the Principal Editors with assistance from the NPP Special Projects Team. Currently, the Special Projects Manager role is filled by Briana Chen, Ph.D., Columbia University, New York, N.Y. USA and the Special Projects Intern roles are filled by Hayley H. A. Thorpe, Ph.D., Western University, London, ON, Canada and Lucas Trambaiolli, Ph.D., McLean Hospital - Harvard Medical School, Belmont, MA, USA.

Peer Review Policy
Pre-submission inquiries are required. Inquiries must be addressed to the official NPP email (journal@acnp.org) and include the following information: 1) tentative title, 2) list of authors, their current rank/positions, and institutional affiliation(s), and 3) a short summary of the topic to be covered. Inquiries are reviewed in several rounds by the NPP Special Projects Team and Principal Editors. One-two inquiries will be selected per round to proceed with submission. Submissions will then undergo the standard NPP peer review process. Up to four independent scientific reviews are solicited, and final decisions are made by the NPP Principal Editors.

This journal also publishes special/guest-edited issues/collections. The peer review process for these articles is the same as the peer review process of the journal in general.
