About the Editors

Like the other Nature titles, Nature Nanotechnology has no external editorial board. Instead, all editorial decisions are made by a dedicated team of professional editors, with relevant research and editorial backgrounds.

Chief Editor: Alberto Moscatelli, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany

Alberto has a first degree in environmental sciences from the University of Urbino in Italy and obtained a PhD in chemistry, with distinction, from Columbia University in 2008. During his PhD he studied reactive intermediates of photochemical reactions in nanoconfined spaces. He then went to Carnegie Mellon University for a postdoc where he studied the photophysical properties of fluorescent polymers used in organic LEDs. He joined Nature Research in October 2010 and has worked at Nature Nanotechnology since March 2012. He has been Chief Editor since January 2022 and he is based in the Berlin office. Senior Editor: Chiara Pastore, PhD, Springer Nature, UK

Chiara has a first degree and a PhD in chemistry, obtained from the University of Pisa and from Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa. During her PhD she focused on the structural biology and biochemistry of iron binding proteins and spent few months at EMBL in Heidelberg and a longer research time at the National Institute for Medical Research in London. She then moved across the pond, to carry out her post-doctoral work on protein-RNA interactions at Columbia University and then back to the UK, at Imperial College London, where she worked on viral proteins. She started her editorial career in October 2015 and joined Nature Nanotechnology in June 2017. Chiara is based in London and is currently on parental leave.

Senior Editor: Wenjie Sun, PhD, Springer Nature, China

Wenjie joined Nature Nanotechnology in January 2017, following the completion of her PhD at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. She received her master's degree on colloid and interface chemistry and bachelor's degree on applied chemistry at Shandong University, China. During her PhD at ETH, she focused on the enzyme biochemistry and biophysics within soft matter systems. Wenjie is based in the Shanghai office. E-mail: wenjie.sun@nature.com

Senior Editor: Benjamin Heinrich, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany

Benjamin joined Nature Nanotechnology in February 2018. He obtained a first degree in chemistry from the University of Leipzig, Germany. After graduation, he joined the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg, France, to study magnetic nano-objects on metallic surfaces with scanning probes. For this work, he received a PhD in condensed-matter physics in 2010. He then moved to Berlin for a PostDoc at the Freie Universität Berlin, where his research focused on many-body phenomena involving magnetic impurities and nanostructures on superconducting surfaces. He is based in the Berlin office. E-mail: benjamin.heinrich@nature.com

Senior Editor: Raghavendra Palankar, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany

Raghav received his Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from Jacobs University, Germany in 2010 working on nanoengineered liposomes and stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems. He then moved to the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry for his post-doc where he developed microcapsules for quantum dots and bioactive enzymes for anti-cancer prodrug conversion and manipulation of signaling receptors. In 2012, he joined the Center for Innovation Competence in Greifswald, Germany to investigate antibody-mediated cardiovascular diseases by combining biophysics and nano-biosensing approaches. In 2018, he became Junior Principal Investigator at the University of Medicine Greifswald. There, he worked on the biomechanics of cells of the cardiovascular system and the biophysical analysis of COVID-19 vaccines. Raghav joined Nature Nanotechnology in July 2022 and is based in Berlin. Senior Editor: Lu Shi, PhD, Springer Nature, China

Lu joined Nature Nanotechnology in April 2023 from Wiley, where she was the Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Electronic Materials and Deputy Editor of Advanced Materials. Prior to her editorial career, she worked on 2D materials growth and magnetoelectric transport behavior of van der Waals heterostructures. For her work, she received a joint PhD in Materials Science and Physics from the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium and Université Grenoble Alpes, France. She obtained her BEng and MSc in Materials Science and Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Lu is based in Shanghai. E-mail: lu.shi@nature.com

Locum Senior Editor: Robert Guilliatt, PhD, Springer Nature, UK

Robert received his first degree in Nanoscale Science and Technology and a PhD in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine both from the University of Leeds, UK. During his PhD Robert worked with self-assembling peptides and decellularised blood vessels on blood vessel tissue engineering. Robert then worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the R&D department of the NHS Blood and Tissue services for three years. He started his editorial career in August 2017 and joined Nature Nanotechnology in November 2022. Robert is based in the London office.        E-mail: robert.guilliatt@nature.com
