Obese ‘neutron’ stars

Abstract

WE show here that non-rotating, spherically symmetric, general relativistic ‘neutron’ stars of mass ≥ 3M are consistent with the known laws of physics. In particular, for the ‘bag’ model of hadrons, we find Mmax 3M. The maximum mass for polytropic equations of state is found to be 5 M.
