For Authors & Referees

Benefits of publishing with Heredity

  • Heredity is the official journal of the Genetics Society  Profits generated from the journal go back to the research community in terms of small grants and support for conferences and workshops.
  • We have a small and dedicated editorial team that span the full breadth of topics covered by the journal.
  • There are NO CHARGES associated with publication unless authors select gold open access.
  • We support open access publishing by encouraging use of preprint servers, depositing accepted papers in open repositories, and requiring that data is fully open access.

You can find a detailed description of the journal remit and relevant journal metrics on our 'About the Journal' page.

This section offers the following resources for prospective authors and referees:

Guide to Authors
All the key information you will require when preparing a manuscript for submission to Heredity including article type specifications and formatting guidelines. Please read this section before submitting.

We recognise that formatting to a particular journal style is time consuming. In order to make things straight-forward for authors, Heredity is happy to accept initial submissions for review in any recognised double-spaced format that includes line numbers, and to accept a single combined file of text and figures rather than separate files (please note that very large files may still need to be submitted individually). Final versions of accepted manuscripts will, however, be requested in Heredity’s specific formatting style.
