Cerebrovascular disease

Cerebrovascular disease is an umbrella term, referring to a group of conditions and diseases that affect blood supply to the brain. The most common of these is stroke, which is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. While there are genetic factors which may cause an individual to be at higher risk of cerebrovascular disease, there are many modifiable lifestyle and medical risk factors that can be used to identify individuals at risk, and addressed prophylactically. Where the event has already taken place, rapid diagnosis and administration of the appropriate treatment are vital to achieving the best possible outcome for the patient.

This Collection aims to bring together the latest research on the risk factors and epidemiology of cerebrovascular disease, and the characterisation of acute treatments to improve the outcomes of cerebrovascular events. Research on the long-term treatment and care of those who have experienced cerebrovascular disease is also welcome.
