Electrolyzer Technology

Electrolyzer technology, pivotal for producing green hydrogen, has garnered significant attention in recent years. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, known for their high-purity hydrogen output and responsiveness to fluctuating power inputs, are becoming increasingly favored in the industry due to their compact design and low operating temperature. Alkaline electrolyzers, on the other hand, offer a cost-effective solution with their long-standing technology and use of non-precious metal catalysts. The emerging solid oxide electrolyzers, operating at high temperatures, can achieve impressive efficiency levels and compatibility with industrial heat sources. Additionally, there is a focus on integrating electrolyzers with other renewable energy devices, like hydrogen fuel cells, to streamline the fuel production to power generation process.

This Collection welcomes original research on enhancing efficiency through innovative catalyst materials, improving durability to reduce degradation over time, and scaling up systems to accommodate larger hydrogen production capacities.

This Collection supports and amplifies research directly related to SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
