Topological physical systems and materials

In condensed matter physics as well as in photonics, systems which exhibit topological behaviour are widely studied. Using the theory of topology on materials, topological photonics look at the study of novel technique to control and manipulate light. Whilst electronic topological insulators are materials presenting an exotic bandgap which supports a conductor behaviour on the surface and an insulator behaviour in the bulk, photonic topological insulators allow the flow of light only on their surface. Next generation of topological physical systems are expected to be paramount in the next generation of quantum technologies; topological photonics systems could be also of interest for their use in solar cell structures to achieve innovative renewable energy technologies.

This Collection brings together original studies in the field of topological physical systems, looking at topology in material science and photonics.

Submitting a paper for consideration

To submit your manuscript for consideration at Scientific Reports as part of this Collection, please follow the steps detailed on this page. On the first page of our online submission system, under “I’m submitting:” select the option “any other article type”. Once logged in you can submit your manuscript to a Collection by selecting “Guest Edited Collection”, under the “Choose the appropriate manuscript type” message, and clicking “Continue”. Then when filling out the manuscript information, select the "Topological physical systems and materials" Collection from the alphabetical list on the “Springer Nature Subject Category” tab. Authors should express their interest in the Collection in their cover letter.

Accepted papers are published on a rolling basis as soon as they are ready.

In addition to papers on Topological physical systems and materials, Scientific Reports welcomes all original research in the field of Physical sciences. To browse our latest articles in Physical sciencesclick here.
