Freshwater ecology is the study of the interrelationships between organisms and their physical environmental in freshwater ecosystems. Researchers in this area seek to understand the ecosystem services that various freshwater environments provide, along with the processes and interactions occurring with adjacent terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Freshwater ecosystems are precious resources for the well-being of our planet but are under constant threat from human pressures. Recent decades have seen extraordinary successes in conservation and restoration of freshwater ecosystems, but increased knowledge and continuous efforts are needed if we are to truly preserve such unique habitats.
This Collection welcomes submissions from all fields of ecology, conservation and restoration, environmental sciences, sustainability, and interdisciplinary research, with a focus on freshwater ecosystems and the organisms found within them.
