Foreign language learning

Submission status

Submission deadline

The Editors at Communications Psychology invite submissions on the topic of foreign language learning.

This curated Collection of research articles seeks to bring together high-quality publications that address applied and basic research questions in the domain of foreign language learning. The Collection is open to submissions from cognitive, educational, and developmental psychology.

This may include research exploring potential consequences (or lack thereof) of foreign language learning, including bilingualism and multilingualism, on cognition and development. Of equal interest are studies that study not the effects of foreign language learning, but what predicts and facilitates learning and proficiency. The journal will prioritize strong confirmatory submissions for peer review. The scope of the Collection is explicitly not limited to research studying English as a foreign language, although that research is of course welcome. Similarly, studies of signed language learning are welcome, as is research into verbal language learning.

Authors interested in submitting narrative reviews or opinion content should contact the journal to discuss suitability.

The journal invites submissions in the form of Research articles, Registered Reports, and Resource articles, as well as review and opinion contributions to the Collection (full details on content types can be found here). Papers will be published in Communications Psychology as soon as they are accepted and then collected together and promoted on the Collection homepage.

The Collection is open for submissions from all authors – and not by invitation only – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Communications Psychology more generally. See our editorial process page for more details. All submissions will be subject to the same review process and editorial standards as regular Communications Psychology Articles, including the journal’s policy on competing interests. The editorial process is managed by professional editors from the journals. All submissions to the collection will be considered and editors will guide authors on the suitability of submitted articles for publication.

When submitting your manuscript to Communications Psychology via our online submission system, please choose the appropriate Collection title from the drop-down menu on the submission form. Please be sure to express your interest in the Collection in your cover letter. All manuscripts will be considered for publication according to the editorial policies of Communications Psychology. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that any individual paper will be included in the collection.
