Driven by scientific advances in elucidating the relationship between diet and health, demand for food products that offer benefits beyond basic nutrition and satiety has increased substantially in recent years. Functional foods, food supplements and nutraceuticals are dietary components that bridge ‘nutrition’ and ‘pharmacology’. They carry bioactive compounds and/or microorganisms that can aid in the prevention or treatment of diseases, including but not limited to gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular illnesses, cancer and cognitive decline.
This Collection welcomes submissions reporting new developments in functional foods, food supplements and nutraceuticals, from molecular and functional characterization to product formulation and clinical evaluation.
