Membrane trafficking

Membrane trafficking describes a variety of processes by which cargoes are specifically targeted from one membranous region of the cell to another through a vesicular transport mechanism. A multitude of different factors can help to mediate these processes through facilitating cargo enrichment, membrane curvature, vesicle coating, membrane scission or vesicle docking. This permits trafficking of a wide variety of cargoes including proteins, pathogens and lipids. Membrane trafficking processes contribute to a broad range of cellular functions and their dysfunction is known to contribute to a multitude of diseases. This Collection welcomes original research focused on membrane trafficking from the cell biology, structural biology and mechanobiology domains.
