Abstract
Evidence from mathematical and mechanical models and from clinical experience suggests that horizontal forces can be an important cause of spinal angulation. On theoretical grounds a spinal angulation of less than 45° will be corrected better by a small force which acts horizontally than by a larger force acting vertically. Clinical experience supports this.
