Abstract
A biochemical study was made on 14 paraplegics to evaluate the possible causes of delayed healing of bed sores. In five of these, more detailed investigations on the plasma and granulation tissue were undertaken. They included estimation of haemoglobin, plasma proteins, albumin/globulin ratio and analysis of granulation tissue for proteins, water content, nucleic acids, free amino acids, glycogen and hexosamines at various stages of healing. Findings from this study have been compared with those of other workers. Deficiency of proteins appears to be the main factor responsible for delayed wound healing.
