KC8 (27.2 mg, 0.20 mmol) was added to a solution of complex 2 (150.0 mg, 0.20 mmol) in THF (5 mL) at ambient temperature. The solution was stirred for 5 h, and the color became deep purple. The mixture was filtrated. Then, a solution of Ni(COD)2 (81.8 mg, 0.30 mmol) in THF (5 mL) was added to the filtrate. The solution was stirred overnight. After removing THF in vacuo, the crude product was extracted with toluene. Black crystals were grown from the solution of toluene at –30 °C. Washing the crystals with cooled toluene afforded pure 5-U2Ni3. Yield: 65 mg, 38%. Anal. Calcd (%) for C55H116N8Ni3P6U2: C, 38.24; H, 6.77; N, 6.49. Found: C, 38.57; H, 6.91; N, 6.68.
