This article was published in the British Dental Journal in 1968 in Volume 125, pages 102-106.

The attitudes towards dental health and the dental services1 of two English communities, Salisbury and Darlington, and their oral health as seen by an independent dental examiner have been described in the previous two papers in this series (Richards et al., 1965; Bulman et al., 1968).2,3 In this report, these dental and sociological data have been combined in order to compare the individual's attitude towards oral health with their actual oral state. Details of the interview and examining procedures used have been described in the previous papers.
