In March 2014 BDJ Team was launched by the BDJ Portfolio as a new, online publication for the whole dental team, the successor to Vital, which was printed four times a year. This month we celebrate BDJ Team's tenth birthday!

To be honest, back in 2014, I wasn't sure many people would read an online-only publication. I thought they would much rather flick through a paper copy in the staff room while having a tea break…

I was wrong! BDJ Team is buoyant and there are over 16,000 visits to its website every month. We published 330 pieces of content in 2023, an increase of 142% since 2014 (when we published 136); there are two themed issues each autumn; and we are supported by numerous talented writers and contributors, including most recently, five new recruits to our reader panel.

I am proud to be the Editor of such a fine collection of content aimed exclusively at UK dental care professionals (DCPs), collaborating with individuals, dental companies, and with dental associations and societies on a regular basis. Have I mentioned that we also provide DCPs with ten free hours of verifiable CPD every year? What's more, BDJ Team is all freely available to read without a subscription or membership.

As we celebrate ten years with a collage of our covers to date (see news), this month we offer the usual smorgasbord of intriguing content. Caroline Holland (our most loyal freelance contributor) scores a hat trick with part 2 of her series on prevention and inequalities in dentistry, a look at making working environments more inclusive, and a spotlight on sustainable dental practices. Our cover star is Alison Edisbury, a dental hygienist and therapist turned academic from Wigan who shares her love of learning. Lorena Pivoda kicks off a new article concept: ‘dental products I cannot live without'. We present top tips for managing medical emergencies in primary care, and our usual regular contributions from BADN, Manas Dave, the DDU and the BSDHT.

BDJ Team is great fun to edit - I hope you continue to enjoy reading it!
