In recent years it is increasingly apparent that just hoping for the best when it comes to business security will not always lead to the best possible outcome. There have been protests, terrorist attacks and even cyber-attacks, showing that no organisation, not even the government is safe. Thankfully some of these risks can be prevented but unfortunately not all and so practices should be prepared for all possible outcomes to limit the impact on their business.
We join the Flambéed Practice which is once again on fire! Luckily, they are prepared for such an emergency. Their practice plans clearly sets out the steps to undertake. The practice is evacuated in a timely manner, their day lists mean they know who is in the practice, coupled with staff checking everyone evacuated. They have a clear procedure for contacting the emergency services limiting the damage to only superficial caramelisation. They are also able to contact patients who have appointments later in the day to reschedule. The emergency plan helps them to know which authorities (CQC, NHS) they need to contact, letting them know that the service will be closed for a period of time while repairs are undertaken. Their insurance is even able to step in with a temporary trailer clinic whilst the repairs are undertaken. This allows for the service to be interrupted for the minimum amount of time and lets them to get straight back to treating patients. The last thing they want to think about when they are walking out of the practice with the fire alarm sounding is who they need to notify and how they can get the practice back on its feet. They simply refer to the plan and follow the step-by-step instructions.
