Management of chronic pulmonary hypertension in neonates with bronchopulmonary dysplasia: perspectives of neonatologists with hemodynamic expertise and pediatric cardiologists

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) with chronic pulmonary hypertension (cPH) is associated with poor prognosis and increased mortality [1]. In many institutions, neonatologists with hemodynamic expertise (hemodynamic consultants) are involved in routine echocardiography screening and medical management of these patients [2]. We performed a survey to compare the approach of hemodynamic consultants and pediatric cardiologists to screening and management of BPD-associated cPH.

An electronic survey was conducted between August and October 2019. The survey was sent to a total of 126 international neonatologists and pediatric cardiologists at respective institutions. The following data were collected: demographics, echocardiography criteria, alternative investigations, and pulmonary vasodilator choices.
