Abstract 208
Background/aim. LCPUFAs added to newborn formulas seem to modify early cognitive development. Learning abilities can be reproductibly assessed in the young rat through MTS. Significant supplements of corn oil in diets while lactanting period, are able to increase AA and DL in brain of young rats. MTS was compared in young rats whose mother were supplemented with linoleic acid(LA) (corn oil) and those from the also breast fed mother on standard diet.
Methods. The supplemented mother group was fed with standard diet added of corn oil (2.97± .9g from P1 to P21 day), the other group was on standard diet. Weaning took place on P21 day, then placed in individual cages eating standard rat food. Maze test was performed in P25, P26 and P30 day.
Result Table
Conclusion. LA supplementation of breast feeding rat dams is not able to induce any improving learning abilities in their offspring at the age of one month.
