Abstract
Cationic polymerization of 1,3,6,9,12-pentaoxacyclotetradecane (14-CF-5) with boron trifluoride ether complex as an initiator was studied. The polymerization proceeded in two stages. There seems to be two different active species involved in this two-stage polymerization. In order to obtain a general idea of the nature of the active species for each stage, the effect of the nature of the solvents and the copolymerization with styrene were studied.
