Abstract
Growth factors' ability to accelerate wound healing is illustrated in these traverse histological sections of rat tissue. Four days after being treated with recombinant basic fibroblast growth factor, the wound is filled with fibroblasts, collagen, endothelial cells, and capillaries (bottom). The control wound (top) is healing more slowly, and contains mainly fibrin (unstained areas).
