What is the relationship between coffee and lung cancer?

I read the recent meta-analysis by Xie et al.1 in the February 2016 edition of the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition entitled, ‘Coffee consumption and the risk of lung cancer: an updated meta-analysis of epidemiological studies.’ This timely subject connecting the consumption of a widely consumed product and a dangerous disease is of great public health interest, and I commend Xie et al.1 for covering this subject as something so prevalent on a world-wide scale. A meta-analysis of this topic helps to summarize the numerous and inconsistent findings of currently available research, highlighting areas requiring even further inquiry.
