The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given emergency authorization to COVID-19 vaccines for children younger than age five. Assuming the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also signs off the decision, an extra 18 million people, from 6 months to 4 years old, in the United States will be eligible for inoculation — the last large group to be granted access.
