A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold, one of America's pioneering conservationists, was first published in 1949. It has now been republished (Oxford University Press, $35) with photographs by Michael Sewell. The book celebrates the changing seasons on Leopold's Wisconsin farm, and is said to be one of the most influential works on humans and the environment.
