Abstract
In northern Kenya, detrital terrigenous sediments of the Buluk Member of the Bakate Formation contain an important vertebrate fauna, which includes material from three hominoid species, one of which has been assigned to the genus Sivapithecus ana is described elsewhere in this issue1. Here we report K–Ar age data on feldspars from volcanic rocks in the area that show the Buluk Member sediments were deposited between 16 and something more than 17.2 Myr ago in the late early Miocene.
