Abstract
The β-subunit of the human placental glycoprotein hormone, chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), is coded for by at least eight different genes or pseudogenes, four of which are arranged in inverted pairs while the other four are arranged in tandem pairs. The genes are each 1.45 kilobases (kb) long and have two short introns located in identical positions.
