Mesoscale convection in the clouds of Venus

Abstract

The cellular structures seen in UV images of the atmosphere of Venus probably represent convection cells. If so, this shape (horizontal dimensions 10–100 times greater than vertical dimensions) cannot be accounted for by radiation transfer alone but requires anisotropic eddy diffusivity.
