Thermal history of the H-group of chondritic meteorites

Abstract

The Tieschitz unequilibrated H-group chondrite accreted at (800±100) °C during rapid cooling 11. From their mineral chemistry, nine other H-group chondrites, exhibiting greater degrees of equilibration, also formed hot. Degree of equilibration is equated with slowness of cooling, especially below about 700 °C. If metamorphism is defined as change brought about by an increase in temperature, in the H-group chondrites it is recognized only in the localized effects of transient reheating, probably induced by shock.
