Genetic variability and population structure of Poecilia latipinna

Abstract

THE pattern of genetic variability among natural populations is commonly attributed to the influence of environmental heterogeneity on natural selection1,2. However, I report here that in Poecilia latipinna (Pisces: Poeciliidae), a small ovoviviparous fish, genetic variability is more closely related to local population structure, in particular, the adult sex ratio.
