Solar wind effect on Jupiter's non-Io-related radio emission

Abstract

JUPITER'S decametric radio emission has been monitored for over 20 years since its discovery in 19551. In 1964 Bigg2 discovered that the decametric radiation is strongly modulated by the first Galilean satellite, Io. It has subsequently been established3 that there are other types of decametric radio activities which are not modulated by Io. We show here that these non-Io-related (NIR) decametric radio activities are affected by solar wind conditions around Jupiter.
