Radionuclide loss from marine sediment

HIGH resolution γ-ray spectroscopy was used to study the concentration of radionuclides in marine sediment in Montsweag Bay, central coastal Maine, USA (the site of the Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Reactor) as a function of residence time. Loss of γ-ray emitting radionuclides with time is discussed in terms of a simple exponential description and in terms of a mechanistic model based on diffusion. Decay constants and diffusion constants for several reactor-associated γ-ray emitting radionuclides are presented.
