Induced intragenic recombination in yeast can occur during the G1 mitotic phase

Abstract

The conditional cell division cycle yeast mutants cdc have been used to demonstrate that intragenic recombination induced by ultraviolet or γ rays occurs in diploids arrested in G1, a short time after irradiation and before the initiation of the S phase. This implies that pairing of homologous chromosomes does not require duplicated chromatids.
