Abstract
A RECENT quantitative biogeographic analysis of Cambrian trilobites1 utilised almost all data on 1,390 genera published since 1927. The Cambrian was divided into 11 time segments (see Fig. 1) and data from over 600 papers and monographs were collated. An attempt is made here to use these data to assess the changing patterns of generic diversity through the Cambrian. Additional data, not used in the biogeographic analysis1 and using finer biostratigraphic subdivisions, will also be used (Fig. 3).
