Structural properties of rat serum proteins which correlate with their degradative rates in vivo

Abstract

SERUM proteins1,2 like intracellular proteins3–7, are continually being degraded and replaced at characteristic rates. Although there is appreciable evidence that structural alterations can influence the half lives of serum proteins8–11, the features of serum proteins which normally influence their degradative rates are unknown. The present experiments were undertaken to learn more about the factors influencing the degradation of serum proteins and to explore any possible relationship of this process to the catabolism of intracellular proteins.
