The nucleus of Centaurus A

Abstract

The nucleus of Centaurus A contains a very compact radio component, and has recently been discovered to be a variable X-ray source. We argue that these phenomena arise from accretion on to a massive black hole. Possible implications for galactic nuclei in general are briefly discussed.
