Antibodies to native tRNA in NZB/NZW mice

Abstract

ANTIBODIES to native DNA, double-stranded RNA, and various synthetic polyribonucleotides occur with great frequency in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)1. These antibodies are also present in the New Zealand mouse, particularly the NZB/NZW F1 hybrid, which is considered a good animal model for human SLE2. We report here the presence and characterisation of antibodies that bind tRNA, specifically in its native conformation, in sera from old NZB/NZW mice.
