Age of KBS Tuff in Koobi Fora Formation, East Rudolf, Kenya

Abstract

Conventional K–Ar dates on pumice from the KBS Tuff horizon in the Koobi Fora Formation at East Rudolf, Kenya, distinguish two tuff units. Samples from area 10 and area 105 give an age of 1.60±0.05 Myr whereas those from area 131 give 1.82±0.04 Myr. Both ages differ from the previously published age of 2.61±0.26 Myr obtained by 40Ar/39Ar technique.
