Abstract
CONTINUOUS plankton recorders (CPRs) are towed1,2 at approximately monthly intervals in the North Sea along standardised routes at a standard depth of 10 m. Analysis of long term results has revealed large scale trends and changes3. Here I deal with changes in the phytoplankton from 1948 to 1973 as evidenced by results from area C2 (Fig. 1) in the western North Sea.
