Abstract
ALTHOUGH colonial behaviour in the Anthozoa1–4 has often been described, hypotheses relating the control of colonial polyp retraction to proposed nerve net activity have been based only on behavioural observations. This preliminary report of an electrophysiological investigation considers the conduction system controllingcolonial polyp retraction in the Madreporarian coral Porites porites var. clavaria.
