Abstract
WHEN some irradiated solids are dissolved in water or certain other solvents, a light emission takes place which, following Wiedemann1, we call “lyoluminescence”. With inorganic materials such as alkali halides, the reactions of trapped electrons from F centres are responsible for the light emission2. In the case of some organic materials such as saccharides, trapped free radicals are involved in the process of lyoluminescence3,4.
