Rainfall Patterns and General Atmospheric Circulation

Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the rainfall records of the Mediterranean and the Middle East and of the Sahel zone and north-west India from the beginning of this century and relates rainfall fluctuations to changes in the general circulation of the atmosphere. Probable rainfall trends during the past 1,000 yr are outlined and rainfall trends projected to the year 2030.
