Influence of Cyclic AMP on Early Events of the Immune Induction

Abstract

IN several recent reports it has been suggested that cell division is regulated by 3,5-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cyclic AMP)1. Human diploid fibroblasts2 as well as transformed tissue culture cells3 seem to respond with decreased mitotic activity after treatment with cyclic AMP. Studies with human peripheral lymphocytes4 indicate that cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP may be involved during cell division. In general the latter studies were performed with no specific mitogenic stimulants to induce cellular proliferation. In this report we present data which indicate that cyclic AMP is able to disturb early events in specific immune induction of mouse lymphocytes in vitro. We conclude that these early events may be related to early events of cell division.
