pH-Dependent Changes in Composition of Carcinoembryonic Antigen

Abstract

CARCINOEMBRYONIC antigens (CEA) are present in perchloric acid-soluble extracts of carcinoma of the gastrointestinal tract, particularly of the colon and rectum1. I report here some observations suggesting that CEA, as present in perchloric acid extracts of carcinomata, is an aggregate of cationic protein and metachromatic material.
