Abstract
RESISTANCE to erythromycin and chloramphenicol in yeast has been shown to be controlled by non-Mendelian genetic factors in mitochondrial DNA1,2. Because paramecium has particular advantages for the study of cytoplasmic genetics3, we have made some genetic and biochemical studies on drug-resistant variants of this ciliate, working with syngens 1 and 4 of P. aurelia.
