Coital Rates and the Pill

Abstract

Udry and Morris1 suggested that oral contraceptives abolish the depression in coital rates characteristic of the second half of the menstrual cycle in women not using these drugs. They speculate that this may be due to the absence (because ovulation has been suppressed) of a luteal surge of progesterone. I should like to comment first on this putative explanation and second on the support given by Udry and Morris's data for their contention.
