Abstract
WHILE studying Campylobacter, a genus of microaerophilic bacteria including the organism formerly called Vibrio fetus, we have obtained some results which may explain, among other things, how these organisms cause infertility in cattle. These results were the outcome of an investigation of the effects of mucin on Campylobacter, which we began because, knowing that this organism is often associated with mucous membranes1, we thought that mucin was probably important for its growth, possibly as a readily utilizable nutrient.
