Experiment to detect Pulsed γ-Rays from the Crab Nebula

Abstract

A BALLOON-BORNE experiment using a telescope sensitive to γ-radiation between 10 and 150 MeV was successfully flown on October 25, 1969, from Palestine, Texas, and was oriented to within 2° of the Crab Nebula. Preliminary results indicate an enhanced response in phase with the optical pulses and with an intensity close to that predicted from an extrapolation of the total X-ray emission from the Crab.
