Rare Earth and Other Elemental Abundances in the Allende Meteorite

Abstract

CHEMICAL analyses for sixteen elements in the Type III carbonaceous chondrite, Allende, have been reported by Clarke et al. (unpublished). Subsequent instrumental and radiochemical neutron activation analyses by Morgan et al.1 yielded abundances of fourteen elements, six in common with the work of Clarke et al. About 1,000 kg of the meteorite has been recovered, offering an unparalleled opportunity for the study of this carbonaceous chondrite.
