Abstract
THE pituitary gland of Dipnoi is different from that of other bony fishes but very much like that of amphibians such as urodeles1. Because bony fishes usually have the neurohypophysial hormone isotocin, [Ser4,Ile8]-oxytocin (ref. 2), in contrast to amphibians which have mesotocin, [Ile8]-oxytocin (ref. 3), and mammals which have oxytocin4, it seemed of interest to identify the corresponding hormone of lungfishes to determine tho position of Dipnoi in the phylogenetic scheme.
